Authorities are investigating a Monday accident in Mission where an elderly woman was hit by a car while walking crossing the road.
It all happened on the 200 block of North Moorefield Road around 6:38 p.m. Monday.
Mission police said a 72-year-old man was behind the wheel when his car hit 78-year-old Emma Perez.
Investigators said Perez was returning to her home after visiting her sister’s home across the street.
The 72-year-old driver said he didn’t see Perez and hit her on accident.
Paramedics took Perez to the McAllen Medical Center where she underwent surgery but was pronounced dead at 9 p.m. Monday.
The driver was also taken to the hospital for observation.
The incident has been ruled an accident and no criminal charges are expected to be filed at this time.
