DPS website states suspect worked

A 31-year-old sex offender is facing criminal charges after he allegedly exposed himself to a woman at Harlingen City Lake.

Harlingen police arrested Pedro Recio, Jr. on an indecent exposure charge on Tuesday evening.

Investigators told Action 4 News that  a woman called police to North 3rd Street and Washington around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The woman told officers that Recio was sitting on park bench and exposed himself to her.

The woman left and called police and officers found Recio a couple of blocks away.

The woman identified him as the suspect and police arrested him.

Recio appeared before a Harlingen municipal judge on Wednesday morning where he was issued a $5,000 dollar bond.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) convicted sex offender website shows that Recio is a convicted sex offender.

Court records show Recio served prison time for exposing himself to a 14-year-old girl in Amarillo.

The DPS website shows that Recio was last listed as working as a janitor for the Children's Clinic of Harlingen off North Ed Carey Drive.

Action 4 News contacted the clinic but administrators declined to immediately comment.

The clinic's attorney Armando Escamilla called Action 4 News less than an hour later and said that DPS website is mistaken.

Escamilla said Recio's father Pedro Recio, Sr. is a contractor for the clinic but that Pedro Recio, Jr. is not and never has been an employee there.

The San Benito based attorney said the clinic does background checks for its employees and that would look into getting the information on the DPS website corrected.
