A Brownsville man is behind bars after evading Harlingen Police for months.
Thirty-year-old Reynaldo Benavides is now in custody after getting arrested in Houston and extradited to Harlingen.
In November 2011, Benavides allegedly assaulted a man and then stole his car.
It happened after the victim met Benavides randomnly in Harlingen.
The two then decided to go out for beers.
After leaving a bar, a Stripes surveillance camera caught the two inside the store.
Surveillance showed the two walked in and left without buying anything.
That's when the victim and Benavides reportedly ended up on the 300 Block of North Bob Youker Street.
Police said Benavides began beating the victim up.
Police said he then strangled the victim until he was unconscious.
Benavides then took the victim's car.
According to police, the victim woke up in a ditch nearby and reported what happened to police.
After receiving tips from their Crime Stoppers Line, Harlingen Police tried serving Benavides an arrest warrant at several locations in Brownsville.
December 6, 2011 Benavides was reportedly arrested in Houston.
After being extradited to Harlingen February 2, 2012, a judge charged Benavides with aggravated robbery.
A judge gave Benavides a $150,000 bond.
The stolen car has reportedly been returned to the victim.
