Police report man's blood alochol content was three times legal limit
A young father is behind bars following a DWI wreck where paramedics had to rush his 2-year-old son and a 34-year-old woman to the hospital.
Harlingen police arrested 24-year-old Jesus M. Torres on an intoxication assault charge over the weekend.
Court records show that Torres was behind the wheel of a blue Ford Focus that hit a red Pontiac Grand Am on Expressway 77/83 late Saturday night.
Paramedics rushed an injured 34-year-old woman in the Pontiac Grand Am to the hospital.
Emergency workers also took Torres' 2-year-old son to the hospital.
Records show that the boy was inside a car safety seat but that it wasn't attached to the safety locks in the back seat.
The arresting police officer wrote that Torres appeared intoxicated and allegedly fell down during a field sobriety test.
Torres took a breathalzyer and allegedly came back with a blood alcohol results of 0.246 and 0.247, more than three times the legal limit.
Police charged Torres with intoxication assault.
The young father remains in custody at the Cameron County Jail under a $25,000 dollar bond and U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement detainer.
