A 17-year-old girl found dead Sunday morning may mark Hidalgo County's first murder of 2012.

The Hidalgo County Sheriff's Department said they responded to a call of assault with a motor vehicle north of Edcouch.

East of FM 88 on Mile 19 North is where they and the Department of Public Safety reportedly found the teen girl dead.

Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Treviño said 23-year-old man is in custody in connection to the murder investigation.

Trevino said the 19-year-old man and 17-year-old girl lived together as boyfriend and girlfriend.

He said the two may have had an argument over him wanting to go out and party.

Deputies are investigating to determine if the 23-year-old ran over his girlfriend.

Charges in this case could come as soon as Monday morning.
