A convicted murderer is back behind bars after Border Patrol agents caught him smuggling drugs in the Southmost area of Brownsville.
It all happened off Florida and Oklahoma Roads in the Southmost area of Brownsville late Tuesday night.
U.S. Border Patrol agents spotted several men smuggling drugs in the area but were only able to catch three of them.
Authorities seized more than 179 pounds of marijuana at the scene.
One the three men arrested was identified as 46-year-old Hilario Hernandez-Muñoz.
Court records show that Hernandez-Muñoz was convicted of murder in Cameron County back in January 1994.
Hernandez-Muñoz finished serving his sentence and was deported from the United States back in September 2011.
The convicted murderer and the two other arrested appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Felix Recio in Brownsville on Friday morning.
Judge Recio denied bond for all three of them until a Wednesday morning hearing.
