A blank gun prompted a scare at Brownsville's Lopez High School on Tuesday morning.
It all happened around 9 a.m. Tuesday.
Investgiators told Action 4 News that school district police received a report about a student with a gun.
Authorities found a machete and a gun that only fires blanks inside the student's car.
No injuries were reported and it's not clear what disclipinary the student will face or if there will be criminal charges.
An identity is not being released but Brownsville ISD officials said the student is a16-year-old sophomore.
The Lopez High School incident comes less than one week after a Cummings Middle School student carrying a pellet gun was shot and killed by Brownsville police.
Brownsville ISD Statement:
BISD police officers recovered a pistol that fires blanks also know as an Ekol-Dicle 9 mm PAK Blank Gun designed to resemble an actual handgun and a machete from a student’s vehicle at Lopez High School this morning. The student and his parent were present at the school at the time and gave permission to district law enforcement officers to search the vehicle. The student is being questioned by BISD police. Lopez students and employees were not in danger and were informed of the incident immediately by the administration via the school’s public address system. Letters will be sent home today informing parents about the incident. Campus administration searched the student’s vehicle based on a tip.
