The hackers group Anonymous is claiming responsibility for a Christmas Day cyber attack against the web site for an Austin-based intelligence company.

Stratfor, a company which provides intelligence reports about the drug war in Mexico and other topics, confirmed the cyber attack on its Facebook page on Sunday afternoon.

In a message posted to its blog, the hackers group Anonymous is claiming responsibility for the attack.

According to the blog, the home page was replaced with a YouTube manifesto as part the group's so-called "Operation Grinch."

Administrators for Stratfor website removed the video and placed a message saying that the website was down for maintenance.

Stratfor President George Friedman condemned the attacks adding that subscribers data may have been compromised.

"We have reason to believe that the names of our corporate subscribers have been posted on other web sites," Friedman said on Facebook.  "We are diligently investigating the extent to which subscriber information may have been obtained."
