At least three more suspects might be facing extradition from Mexico for the murder of Brownsville ICE agent Jaime Zapata.
Records obtained by Action 4 News show that the indictments against the three men are sealed but that they are in custody south of the border.
The records show that a federal grand jury in Washington DC handed down indictments against:
• Ruben Dario Venegas-Rivera
• Mario Dominguez-Realeo (aka Francisco Carbajal-Flores)
• Jose Ismael Nava-Villagran
The indictments were handed down in April but have remained sealed because the men are not in American custody.
Action 4 News learned about the indictments through records filed in the case of Julian Espinoza-Zapata, a Zetas gunman who went by the nickname “El Piolin.”
Espinoza-Zapata is jailed in Washington DC for the murder of U.S. Immigration & Customs (ICE) agent Jaime Zapata back in February.
Zetas gunmen ambushed Zapata and fellow ICE agent Victor Avila on a highway in San Luis Potosi.
The Mexican Army arrested Espinoza-Zapata, Venegas-Rivera and Dominguez-Realeo a couple weeks after the attack.
Mexico’s federal police arrested Jose Ismael Nava-Villagran in April.
