A 13-year-old boy who was shot while trying out for the basketball team at Harwell Middle School will have a long road to recovery.

The parents of Nicholas Tijerina held a press conference at the McAllen on Friday morning.

Nicholas has been upgraded to stable condition but still has a bullet lodged inside of him.

The 13-year-old boy cannot move his legs but is eventually expected to do so with therapy.

The boy's parents thanked teachers and coaches for saving their son's life.

Action 4 News will have the full story during tonight's 6 p.m. newscast.
