Cameron County District Attorney Armando Villalobos is officially announcing his bid for the District 27 seat for the U.S. House of Representatives.

Villalobos is holding a press conference outside San Benito High School at 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

A campaign kick-off party is expected to follow at the Brownsville Events Center at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Both events are open to the public.

The announcement ends months of speculation as to whether Villalobos would run or not.

The move comes shortly after the final approval of redistricting boundaries for congressional lines across Texas.

The new boundary lines for District 27 include Cameron, Willacy, Kenedy, Kleberg and the western portions of Nueces County.

What do you think?
Would you vote for Armando Villalobos for Congress?
