The Board of Trustees for the Edcouch-Elsa Superintendent School Disctrict voted 4-2 to terminate the superintendent’s contract.

It took the board members over an hour in executive session to make a decision.

Dr. Delfino Aleman was hired as superintendent in May, but was placed on suspension in October.

Board President Joseph Campos would not go into the specifics of the closed session.

But he told Action 4 News once the details are made public people will understand why they had to let Aleman go after just six months.

Campos said he doesn't know what financial impact their decision will have on the district.

But another board member, Fernando Torres, who opposed the decision said those numbers could be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Aleman has 15 days to appeal the decision, at which time he can request either a public or private hearing.

He was not a the meeting because he was suspended during a school board meeting on October 19th.
