Danny Castillo is committed to Harlingen.
“Last 25 years I had the privilege and honor of serving this community as a police officer, the last nine as police chief,” said Castillo.
Castillo claims he was forced to resign as Harlingen’s police chief.
He wants to continue serving Harlingen, this time as a city commissioner.
But Castillo may soon serve another city as well.
Santa Rosa city officials confirm Castillo is a candidate for their city manager.
"I haven't heard back yet,” said Castillo. “I did put in a resume for that position."
Castillo told Action 4 News a job in Santa Rosa and a political position in Harlingen pose no problem.
"I believe there is no conflict there,” said Castillo. “One is paid and one is not. They're equally important, and I believe it can be done.”
Some voters at TSTC's Harlingen City Commission Candidates' forum Tuesday felt differently.
"Because he cannot run Harlingen and there,” said voter Gregory Alvarado. “One post is it."
"I think it's hard to work at two different things at the same time,” said TSTC student government member Jose Eduardo Gonzalez.
Castillo is one of three candidates for Harlingen City Commissioner District One.
“Specifically block watch programs are already high on my list of priorities,” said candidate Gail Moore.
“More jobs down here, more businesses to improve the economy down here,” said candidate J.J. Gonzalez.
“As far as finding improvements in improving the quality of life in any community is learning how to work together,” said Danny Castillo.
Castillo did not disclose to voters or the city of Harlingen his potential post in Santa Rosa.
"I mean I'm just like every other resident,” said Castillo. “If you're looking for a job, you're looking for a job."
He said he will disclose his intention to run for Harlingen City Commissioner District One when he interviews with Santa Rosa city leaders.
Action 4 News put in calls to both Santa Rosa's and Harlingen's city attorneys late Tuesday afternoon to find out if Castillo can run for city commissioner in Harlingen and apply for the position of Santa Rosa’s city manager.
