A Harlingen man remains behind bars after he allegedly tried to rob and kidnap a man riding his bicycle blocks away from the police department.
Harlingen police arrested 26-year-old Joel Anthony Carmon on multiple criminal charges on Sunday.
It all started on the near the corner of North Eye Street and Fair Park Boulevard.
The alleged victim told police he was riding his bicycle when Carmona pulled up next to him in a green Ford Explorer.
Carmona allegedly got out of the SUV and demanded the man’s money at knifepoint.
According to reports, Carmona allegedly tried to force the victim inside his SUV but was not successful.
Carmon took $300 dollars from the man and fled the scene.
Officers got a call about two blocks away on North J Street where Carmona was hiding inside a house.
Police arrested Carmona and charged him with aggravated robbery, aggravated kidnapping, criminal trespass and outstanding tickets.
Carmona appeared before Harlingen Municipal Judge Michael Zanca on Wednesday where he was issued $253,000 dollars in bonds and $2,152.90 in fines for the tickets.
