A Harlingen mother is behind bars after she allegedly lunged at her common law husband and their baby with a kitchen knife.

Harlingen police arrested 25-year-old Amanda Suetkamp on aggravated assault and child endangerment charges early Saturday afternoon.

Investigators told Action 4 News that it all started with a panic alarm call to a home off the 3600 block of Los Alamos Circle on the city’s southside around 1 p.m. Saturday.

Suetkamp’s common law husband told officers that they had gotten into an argument and that she grabbed a kitchen knife and lunged at him.

The man told officer he was holding the couple’s 7-month-old son in his arms at the time of the attack and had to use a chair as a shield.

Neither the man not the baby was injured during the incident but officers arrested Suetkamp.

Suetkamp appeared before a Harlingen municipal judge on Monday where she was issued $500,000 dollars in bonds.

She remained in custody at the Harlingen City Jail as of Monday morning.
