A Harlingen dog is now safe after police rescued it from being beat up.

Early Saturday morning police said they got a report of animal cruelty at the house of Jose Gonzales on the 500 Block of West Polk.

Neighbors reportedly heard a dog being beaten inside the home.

According to police, an investigation revealed Gonzales was abusing his dog.

The dog was reportedly found with a bloody nose, bloody mouth and a cut to the nose.

A judge set Gonzales's bond at $5,000.
