The Weslaco man charged with the death of two Mormon missionaries in Donna on Tuesday remains locked up at the Hidalgo County Jail.
Jose Luis Garza Flores, 32, is a Mexican national living in Weslaco.
The Texas Department of Public Safety said Garza Flores was tried passing another car on Midway Road on Tuesday night, when he struck three Mormon missionaries riding their bikes on the side of the road.
Elders Trevor Strong, 21, from Utah and Derek Walker, 20, from Idaho died as a result of their injuries.
A third man, 19-year-old Zachary Harris of Alabama, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
Garza Flores and two other people inside the car that struck the three young men fled the scene on foot, leaving the wrecked car behind.
Police say Garza Flores turned himself in just hours later at the Progreso International Bridge.
He faced a judge this morning and was charged with two counts of failing to stop at an accident causing death or injury, a third degree felony.
The judge gave Garza Flores a $50,000 bond of each charge, totaling $100,000.
