The smell of smoke triggers a mass evacuation at Harlingen South High School.

“One of the copiers in the teacher’s lounge was omitting an odor of smoke and it penetrated the hallways” said Shane Strubhart, spokes man for the Harlingen school district.

Strubhart said someone smelled the smoke and pulled the alarm thinking there was fire.

The school was evacuated.

According to our Facebook page, viewers are reporting the students had been evacuated for more than an hour as of 11:49 p.m. Friday morning.

At noon, the students were allowed back in class.

The fire department arrived to inspect the area, and determined it was a light ballast not a copier that create the smell.

No injuries are reported.
