A Hidalgo police officer made an unusual discovery late Tuesday night and helped rescue a suspected kidnapping victim.

Investigators told Action 4 News that a Hidalgo Police Department officer was stationed at the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge early Wednesday morning.

The officer was making a routine southbound inspection around 2:15 a.m. he saw a juvenile driver that looked suspicious.

While talking to the juvenile driver, the officer noticed him becoming more nervous.

The officer could also hear thumping coming from the trunk of the vehicle.

Investigators said the officer called for backup and detained the juvenile.

The officers then tapped on the trunk of the car and could hear a muffled voice.

When they opened the trunk, they saw a man bound and gagged.

He told officers he had been kidnapped two to three days before the incident.

The juvenile was taken to the juvenile detention center for questioning.

Hidalgo County Sheriff Office's deputies assisted with the call.

Neither the identities of the driver nor the person in the trunk have been released st this time.

Investigators believe that the kidnapping victim is from the Monte Cristo Road area in northern Hidalgo County.
