Authorities have released more details about a bath tub accident that left an 11-month-old baby girl fighting for life in critical condition.
Paramedics rushed 11-month-old Amanda Cecilia Gallardo to the hospital on Wednesday afternoon.
It all happened at the J&J Apartments off South Iowa Road on the Brownsville's eastside.
Brownsville police told Action 4 News that Baby Amanda's mother was giving the girl and her 2-year-old brother a bath.
The mother told investigators that she left the water running and did not put in a drain plug.
The woman said she stepped out to go to an adjacent bedroom and returned a few minutes later to find Baby Amanda floating in a tub filled with water.
Investigators said the mother called 9-11 and was given instructions on how to give her baby daughter CPR.
Paramedics rushed Baby Amanda to the Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen where she remains in critical condition.
Investigators said the mother is not facing criminal charges but her case has been forwarded to the Cameron County District Attorney's Office for review.
