A Brownsville woman is behind bars after she allegedly failed to report the sexual abuse of a teenage girl.
Brownsville police arrested 40-year-old Lorena Diaz on a failure to report the abuse of a minor charge on Friday afternoon
Investigators told Action 4 News that 16-year-old victim made an outcry about two months ago.
The male suspect in that sexual abuse has not yet been arrested but detectives learned Diaz knew about it and didn’t report it.
Under Texas state law, failing to report the abuse of a minor is punishable up to one year in jail and up to a $4,000 dollar fine.
Jail records show that Diaz spent about two hours in custody and was then released on bond.
