Primera city commissioners are expected to discuss the possible termination of Police Chief Joe Rodriguez at next week’s meeting.
He was placed on administrative leave with pay just hours after an exclusive Action 4 News investigation earlier this week into transgender female pornography pics he admitted to texting to a constable's county issued work cell.
But even before Tuesday evening’s city commission meeting, there are many people in the small community of Primera who are calling for the chief to resign.
"I'm just disgusted from what I've heard,” one woman said who did not want her identity revealed.
School parent Holly Pallikan worried about the example the chief was setting.
"He should be held to a higher standard... He shouldn't be doing this at all... He's supposed to be an example for everybody here in Primera."
Constable Robert Lopez from precinct 4 says he filed a police report for harassment.
He believed Chief Rodriguez sent the cell smut, which included five fetish female porn pics with male genitalia, to try and frame him in an upcoming election against him.
The chief has said the pics sent from his personal phone were meant for a cousin.
He also told Action 4 News that he apologized to the constable for the mistake.
Robert Lopez doesn't buy it.
He believes the chief's checkered past with the Rio Hondo ISD shows a pattern of inappropriate behavior with pornography.
Joe Rodriguez was fired in 2007 following alleged misuse of district computers.
Documents from that investigation reveal he allegedly accessed adult web content over a two week period.
On one day alone, the technology department turned up about two dozen porn site hits, according to a report.
It even states he admitted to the searches, which included sites like blackplanet.com to meet women, adult only chat groups and other areas of the web said to have been chock "full of pornographic images."
Linda Chairez lives near the police department.
She feels trust is now in question.
"He's right there... And the kids trust police officers ... Come on."
Whether commissioners continue to trust their chief will be determined next week.
