Authorities are investigating an early morning shooting that left one man dead and another seriously injured.
McAllen police told Action 4 News that 32-year-old Jorge Zavala died at the scene while the other victim was rushed to the hospital in serious condition.
It happened around 2:15 a.m. Tuesday just minutes after the victims left the Tex-Mex Lounge strip club in Edinburg.
Police said the suspects followed the victims to the Expressway between Jackson Road and Jackson Avenue.
“It’s my understanding that the victims were traveling in a vehicle when shots were fired and subsequently we have a victim that was deceased at the scene,” said Sgt. Joel Morales, the McAllen spokesman.
The shots caused the men to crash.
The expressway was closed for a few hours to clear the road of debris.
The Texas Department of Transportation's Director of Maintenance Pete Alvarez said there are some important things to keep in mind if you are ever followed on the Expressway.
“You want to make sure that you’re in a well lit area,” said Alvarez.
He said some parts of the expressway are more lit than others.
“The expressway, generally speaking, has a center lane lighting system, but in certain areas there might not be illumination, so you want to get to a well lit area,” said Alvarez.
He said it's also a good idea to go to a more crowded area.
“The idea is to become more visible," he said. "I would imagine that individuals who are pursuing somebody would be less likely to do any harm if there’s witnesses in the area.”
And of course, call 9-11 if you ever feel in danger.
McAllen investigators are looking for a newer model black Chevrolet Tahoe with over-sized rims, possibly 24 inch rims.
The suspects were reportedly driving that type of a vehicle.
Anyone with information is urged to call McAllen Crime Stoppers at (956) 687-TIPS.
