Aftershocks reported in earthquake southeast of Lubbock

Authorities have confirmed at least two measurable aftershocks in a Panhandle town southeast of Lubbock.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported that two aftershocks measuring at 2.5 and 2.7 on the Richter scale were detected northeast of Synder, Texas early Sunday afternoon.

A 4.4-magnitude earthquake shook the Panhandle town around 7:27 a.m. Sunday.

No damages were reported during the quake.

The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reports that the quake happened when most people were getting ready for church or watching televisio ncoverage of the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Snyder is located about 85 miles southeast of Lubbock.
