Heavy machinery might become a common sight in some Harlingen neighborhoods.

The Texas National Guard is demolishing some 42 homes and buildings as part of “Operation Crackdown.”

Authorities are demolishing the condemned properties that have become “crack houses” or havens for criminal activity.

Harlingen city officials have compiled a list of 42 homes and buildings for demolishing.

The structures are being demolished at no cost to the owners.

Action 4 News recorded the demolition of a crack house near the corner of North 12th Street and East Filmore Avenue late Monday morning.

Officials told Action 4 News that the demolition will result in cleaner and safer neighborhoods.
