A shopping spree to buy ammunition for AK-47 assault rifles and smuggle them to Reynosa ended with two men behind bars.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers arrested 20-year-old Manuel Mario Pavon and 38-year-old Gerardo Domingo Rodriguez-Rivera on Tuesday.
The two men allegedly worked together to buy 70 magazines of ammunition for AK-47 rifles.
Authorities had both men under surveillance and saw them headed to the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge.
Authorities detained Rodriguez-Rivera after he got out of Pavon's Chevrolet Cavalier and started walking in the pedestrain lane of the bridge.
Customs officers found the ammo hidden inside Pavon's car.
Both men appeared before U.S. Magistrate Court Judge Dorina Ramos in McAllen on Thursday.
Judge Ramos denied bond for both men until a Monday morning hearing.
