A San Juan woman is dead following a crash early Saturday morning.

An alleged drunk driver is being blamed in the crash and is now behind bars.

San Juan Police said Samuel Montoya of Alamo was three times over the legal drinking limit.

Montoya went before a judge Sunday .

He was charged with intoxication manslaughter, reckless driving and evading arrest.

San Juan Police Chief Juan Gonzalez told Action 4 News the woman killed was 48-year-old Norma Rios.

Also injured and hospitalized in the crash was 43-year-old Blanca Cantu of San Juan.

Police said Montoya was traveling against traffic on the east frontage road of Expressway 83.

They said he nearly struck a police unit.

Police reportedly tried to stop the man, but he sped away.

It was at the intersection of Nolana and Raul Longoria where the man was said to have plowed into the victims.

Montoya’s attorney said the man had just arrived from Michigan where his family had been working.

He was in the valley to drop off his daughters who were going back to college.

Montoya's bond was set at $410,000.
