Smoke still lingers at the site of an extinguished tire fire outside San Benito.

Just down the road on another property, mounds of tires and a graveyard of cars sit, waiting to catch fire.

Dora Espinoza owns the house between the scorched junkyard and the possibly hazardous property.

Espinoza wants the property cleared out before danger strikes her home.

"So that my family can live here in peace,” said Espinoza.

Cameron County administrators are aware of the mess.

"We have notified the TCEQ about this problem,” said Cameron County Emergency Management Coordinator Humberto Barrera.

Barrera warned metal, plastic and chemicals from the junked cars could seep into the ground and into the water of a nearby drainage ditch.

Cameron County is working to contact the owner of the property.

He reportedly lives in Dallas.

Meanwhile, Bobby Waldrep, the owner of the already burned property cannot be found.

Authorities want to question him.

Espinoza said she hopes her neighbors will take her safety into consideration.
