A man has been rushed to a hospital after falling more than 100 feet while painting a water tower in San Benito.

It all happened at the San Benito Greyhounds Water Tower off Williams Road around 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Investigators told Action 4 News that a man in his 30s worked for a company contracted to paint the water tower.

The man used a motorized box to lift himself to the top.

Investigators told Action 4 News that the man was not harnessed inside the box and fell out when he moved it to reposition himself.

Authorities said the man hit himself during his 100-foot fall on metal beams that are part of water tower's structure.

The man reportedly landed in a pile of black sand, which authorities said help break his fall.

Investigators said the man was conscious and able to speak but may be suffering from internal injuries.

His medical condition at the Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen was not immediately known.

Officials said the man was not a city employee but rather a worker with private contractor hired to paint the water tower.

The company's name was not immediately available but nvestigators said the company will have to report the accident to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
