All Rio Hondo city employees are undergoing new interviews for positions some have been holding for years.

The move was allegedly made by a new city manager who just took over the job on Monday.

City Manager Hipolito Cabrera said he’s asked all city employees to submit a new job application simply to see how his staff would react to this request.

Employees said they received this e-mail stating all applications must have been submitted by Friday of last week.

According to employees who spoke off camera, not only did they have to submit the application but Cabrera also set up interviews with each and everyone one of them.

Employees said they were concerned they could lose their jobs

Cabrera he refused to speak to Action 4 News on camera but assured that no one is jeopardy of losing their jobs.

He said the move was simply a way for him to get to know his staff better and learn more about what they do.

He also added that the request for re-application of city employees was not mandatory.

Action 4 News put in a call to Rio Hondo Mayor Alonso Garza looking for an explanation to this process.

But Garza refused to speak to us unless Action 4 News revealed names of those sources who told us about the re-application process.

What do you think?
Is it fair for city employees to have to reapply for their jobs when a new city manager takes over?
