Tropical Storm Don continues to organize in the Southern Gulf of Mexico and is expected to track towards the Texas coast through the next 24 to 36 hours.
Isolated to scattered showers and some thunderstorms, along with tropical storm force winds, will accompany Don as it eventually makes landfall in south or Deep South Texas.
The latest models have shifted the forecast track a little farther south, with most of the forecast models aiming more towards Baffin Bay and less towards Corpus Christi.
There are still a few models that indicate Tropical Storm Don will hit the Valley.
For that reason, the National Weather Service has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for Cameron, Willacy and Kennedy counties.
A Tropical Storm Watch means the possibility for tropical storm conditions to occur within the next 48 hours.
As of 8am Thursday morning, Tropical Storm Don was located 495 miles east south east of Brownsville, TX and was moving toward the west north west around nine miles per hour.
Sustained winds were around 40 miles per hour with gusts near 50 miles per hour.
Along the coast, rip current risk will be moderate Thursday as wave heights start to build.
As Tropical Storm Don nears the South Texas coast Friday, conditions along the coast will begin to deteriorate through the day.
The rip current risk will be high as wave heights quickly build to 8-10 feet during the day.
Wave heights have the potential to be as high as 10-14 feet.
Residents in the watch area are urged to monitor the latest weather forecast, listen for possible warnings and start preparing your home or business now.
Don is expected to remain a tropical storm as it makes landfall early Saturday morning.
