Two Harlingen men are behind bars after they tried to steal thousands of dollars worth of copper wire from a local AEP building.
It all happened on the 200 block of South T Street around 11 p.m. Monday.
Harlingen police told Action 4 News that a patrol officer spotted a blue Cadillac in front of the American Electric Power (AEP) building.
The officer spotted a man stealing a spool of copper cable and followed the car to a home off the 800 block of Sunset Drive.
Both 23-year-old Ezekiel Acevedo and 24-year-old Orlando Serrata got out of the car.
Investigators learned that the two had cut a chain link fence to steal two spools of cable worth about $3,800 dollars.
The two men were charged with state jail felony theft of wire/cable and each issued $15,000 dollar bonds.
