MCALLEN, TEXAS (AP) -- Two former officials at the Falcon Dam on the Rio Grande have been sentenced to prison for embezzling more than $104,000 in federal funds.
The Monitor of McAllen reports U.S. District Judge Randy Crane sentenced Silverio Garza Jr. and Joel Javier Garza in McAllen.
Silverio Garza was operations manager of the Falcon Dam and Power Plant Project. He received a two-year prison term and was ordered to pay more than $31,000 in restitution.
Joel Javier Garza was the project's facilities superintendent. He received a four-month prison sentence and six months of house arrest. He also must pay more than $64,000 in restitution.
The men pleaded guilty to federal theft charges in June 2010 after they were accused of using government-issued credit cards for personal purchases.
