Power fully restored power to Cameron County

AEP Texas has fully restored power to several areas that lost electricity in Cameron County.

A transmission outage has left more than 11,316 homes and businesses on Tuesday.

The outages mostly affected eastern Cameron County and South Padre Island.

Schlitterbahn, which is located on the island , closed off the back portion of their park around 9:30 a.m. due to the outage.

All traffic lights were out  prompting  South Padre Island Police to patrol and direct traffic.

According to AEP Texas spokesman Frank Espinosa, worked to address and fix the issue.

As of 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, only about 5,389 homes and businesses without electricity.

A cause of the failure is not known but power had been fully restored shortly before noon.
