Smugglers use ladder to move marijuana over Brownsville border fence

An accused drug smuggler is behind bars after he and others allegedly used a ladder to throw marijuana over the border fence in a Brownsville neighborhood.

It all happened in the San Felipe neighborhood just off West Alton Gloor Boulevard and Military Highway around 9:15 a.m. Thursday.

Border Patrol agents arrested Victor Hugo Rodriguez-Raga on federal drug charges.

Court records released on Friday show that Rodriguez-Raga was among a group of men used a ladder to toss bundles of marijuana over the border fence.

The men fled Border Patrol agents arrested Rodriguez-Raga and collected several bundles with 339.6 pounds of marijuana at the scene.

Rodriguez-Raga allegedly admitted to helping smuggle the drugs.

The accused smuggler appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Ronald Morgan in Brownsville on Friday morning.

Records with citizenship and age were not immediately available for Rodriguez-Raga.

Judge Morgan denied citizenship for him until a Tuesday afternoon hearing.
