Total of seven arrests in made in connection to case

Authorities have made two more arrests in a corruption case involving former 404th State District Court Judge Abel Limas.

A federal grand jury filed a sealed indictment both Karina Peña and her husband Armando Peña on Tuesday.

The indictment was unsealed on Thursday morning after the couple appeared before U.S. Magistrate Court Judge Felix Recio in Brownsville.

Each of the two is charged with aiding and abetting honest services wire fraud.

According to the three-page indictment, Karina Peña wired $1,800 middleman Jose Manuel Longoria to have her have husband Armando’s probation changed.

Court records show that Armando Peña was on probation in a 2005 robbery case but the couple moved to Arkansas and wanted for him to be able to report by mail.

Judge Recio granted a $25,000 dollar bond for Karina Peña but denied bond for Armando Peña during a court hearing on Thursday morning.

Armando Peña is expected back in court for a bond hearing on Monday afternoon.

If convicted, both Armand and Karina Peña face 30 years in federal prison and $1 million dollars in fines.

A total of seven people including two attorneys have been arrested in the Limas corruption case.
