A Rio Hondo teen is back behind bars after escaping from police officers who had just arrested him in an early Sunday morning disturbance.

Rio Hondo police arrested 18-year-old Juan Jose Guillen on escape, resisting arrest and criminal mischief charges around 5 a.m. Sunday.

Investigators told Action 4 News that officers responded to a disturbance off Ebony Avenue.

Officers arrested Guillen as the suspect in a criminal mischief case where he allegedly used rock and bricks to damage the windows and body of a car.

Guillen allegedly resisted arrest but was taken to the Rio Hondo Police Department.

Investigators told Action 4 News that Guillen was handcuffed with his hands to the front when he was being escorted to a squad car to be taken to the Cameron County Jail.

Guillen allegedly bolted while handcuffed but was caught in the backyard of a home several blocks away where he allegedly started a fight.

Charges remain pending in a possible assault case but the Rio Hondo teen appeared for the other charges before Cameron County Magistrate Judge Luis Saenz on Monday.

Guillen has a previous criminal record that includes serving one year probation in a marijuana case.

Judge Saenz issued a total of $7,500 dollars in bonds against Guillen.
