Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Deputies continue searching for at least eight men involved in a deadly shooting northeast of Edinburg.

Sheriff Lupe Treviño said the shooting happened at about 7:30 p.m. on FM 2812 and Uresti Road, “One body was shot multiple times in the head and in the torso.”

The driver, a 25-year-old man, was killed on the spot inside his white Chevy pickup truck. His passenger is recovering at a McAllen hospital from a single bullet wound.

“Witnesses say a brown King Ranch Ford F250 opened fire,” Treviño said.

Those witnesses added that a total of three cars opened fire on the white truck.

In addition to the brown F250, investigators are looking for a dark colored SUV, which sped off into the brush to make a getaway.

They were followed by a third car that apparently crashed on the side of the road, Treviño said.

"Three men jumped out before it caught fire,” he added. “They ran into the field north of the crime."

Deputies set up a mile-long perimeter overnight around the crime scene.

They went door to door to notify residents living in the area about the shooting and their escape.

Treviño urges anyone with information to call the Hidalgo County Crime Stoppers at (956) 668-8477.

"If you see or hear anything, stay inside, keep the door locked and immediately call the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office."
