Brownsville police bust junkyard-based auto theft ring

According to Brownsville police the three suspects were caught at a salvage yard as they were trying to dispose of some of the stolen vehicles.

Officers arrested 38-year-old Rigoberto Velasquez, his 39-year-old girlfriend Oralia Cepeda and her 19-year-old son in law Juan Vicente Arrellano on Monday evening.

Investigators told Action 4 News that Velasquez admitted to stealing several vehicles, including four which were recovered at the salvage yard.

Velasquez allegedly told police they were attempting to dispose of the vehicles for cash.

All three were charged with unauthorized use of motor vehicle and engaging in organized criminal activity.

Bond for Velasquez was set at $150,000 dollars, $80,000 dollars for Cepeda and $180,000 dollars for Arrellano.
