Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) officials have released helicopter footage of a shootout with alleged drug cartel members along the Rio Grande just south of Mission.

It all happened along the Rio Grande River near the Chimney Park RV Resort south of Mission on Thursday.

Authorities released footage from the shootout during a press conference at DPS Regional Headquarters in Weslaco on Friday.

The video, which was uploaded to the DPS YouTube page, shows aerial footage taken a by a helicopter camera of the chaotic scene.

A drug smugglers raft is shown as well as American officials in patrol boats.

DPS officials said the the press conference that investigators three Gulf Cartel gunmen were injured during the incident.
