It's a brand new hurricane season, but Julie Moore is still refinishing furniture after hurricane Dolly came to town in 2008.

She and her husband live in what's become the infamous Mariposa Ranch in La Feria, known for flooding every time it rains, but even more so when a hurricane bears down.

"All of our carpeting we had to lift and remove we put down tile, we hope that we can Clorox it and throw it back out again" said Julie Moore.

During Dolly, Julie had six inches of water inside her house.

People who live in the fairly new subdivision have come to find that it sits in a bowl, taking in water, and keeping it there until it's pumped out.

The city of La Feria is hoping to alleviate the problem by building one large drainage system, with a 15 million dollar grant they are set to receive on June 15th.

"It’s to relieve drainage from lake Tio Cano to Mariposa Ranch  through La Feria to Arroyo Colorado" said Steve Brewer, Mayor of La Feria.

La Feria Mayor Steve Brewer said during Dolly, the main highway between La Feria and Santa Rosa, FM 506 was inundated with water and closed to traffic for close to four months.

This drainage project wouldn't be the cure all for flooding but it could be the relief Julie and her neighbors at Mariposa Ranch have been waiting for.
