Brownsville school board officials report that they have accepted the resignation of Superintendent Brett Springston.
Springston presented his resignation during the school board’s Wednesday afternoon meeting.
Brownsville Independent School District officials report that Dr. Carl Montoya has already been appointed as interim superintendent.
Montoya was serving as the area administrator for the Rivera Cluster Schools before the appointment.
Springston, who started with Brownsville ISD in December 2009, had recently applied for a job as superintendent of schools in Huntsville, Alabama.
He did not get the job but the school board praised Springston as an outstanding and well-respected leader.
School board officials reported that Montoya has 35 years of experience with school districts in New Mexico and Dallas.
“I want to thank the Board for this opportunity,” Montoya said in a statement. “I look forward to working with the Trustees in a productive and positive relationship that will benefit
our district and community stakeholders.”
