Many companies and businesses would not operate without the help of volunteers.

Friendship of Women in Brownsville has been expanding their services over the past few years and will be holding a special volunteer training program to get that extra help.

They are a non-profit agency that provides free services to victims of family violence and sexual assault.

They've been doing so for the past 34 years.

"We help women, children and men, last year we had 1,677 families" said Sandy Cuevas, Community Educator

With those astounding numbers, Friendship of Women need assistance.

They plan on holding a volunteer training season June 20th through the 24th..

"It’s a five day training, its in the morning, and they come into our agency and will assist us here in our office, assist us in taking patients to court, to the hospital,or  to the doctor" said Cuevas

Daisy Lopez started volunteering back in 2004 as the receptionist

Two years later she received a full time position as the Prevention Program Coordinator.

And while she may have started out as a volunteer, Daisy has  plans on sticking around for quite some time.

Not just for steady employment, but to continue helping victims of abuse.

"Being able to be there and just providing that support even if its on the phone, you can tell when you've made someone’s day" said Daisy Lopez.

If you would like to volunteer, you can call (956)-544-7412.
