A federal judge sentenced a Port Isabel man to 8 years and 1 month in prison for his role in a local child porn case.
Samuel Tabares appeared for sentencing before U.S. District Court Judge Hilda Tagle at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The 34-year-old Port Isabel pleaded guilty in a federal child porn case back in July 2010.
U.S. Attorney's Office officials told Action 4 News that federal agents found 343 images and 132 videos of child pornography on his computer.
FBI and U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents learned he had obtained some of the images through a file-sharing program used over the Internet.
Judge Tagle sentenced Tabares to 8 years and one month in federal prison.
Among other conditions, Tabares must also register as a sex offender, attend counseling and not have contact with children under 18 years of age without the court's permission.
