A U.S. Marine from Edinburg is recovering after an improvised explosive device hit his patrol unit in Afghanistan.

The brother of 28-year-old Jacob De La Garza spoke to Action 4 News by phone.

He said his brother will be flown to Germany Sunday night.

He said doctors were working to save his arm and foot.

"As far as we know he's been stabilized, and I know they said they saved his arm, but his foot was the one they're still trying to save," said De La Garza.

De La Garza is expected to be flown to the United States some time next week.

He's the father of two young children.

His brother said he has spoken with wife and told her he is doing alright.
