DALLAS (AP) -- Flag-waving supporters left flowers and balloons outside the Dallas home of former President George W. Bush early today to salute the U.S. mission that killed Osama bin Laden.
"Thank you President Bush," said a sign left on the gate near Bush's residence.
Bush was in power on 9/11 when terrorists commandeered four commercial jets, crashing them in New York City, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania, killing nearly 3,000 people.
State Sen. Brian Birdwell of Granbury, who was burned in the attacks, calls the killing of bin Laden personal justice for the U.S. Birdwell was working at the Pentagon when a hijacked plane hit the building.
Birdwell today received a standing ovation in the Texas Senate, then he led the Pledge of Allegiance.
