ROBSTOWN, TEXAS (AP) -- The family that operated a South Texas barbecue icon for more than 60 years has sold off mementos of the restaurant, which fire destroyed recently.
What caused the fire that destroyed Joe Cotten's Barbecue in Robstown March 2 still hasn't been determined by the state fire marshal's office. One thing is certain for the Cotten family.
"It's the end of an era for our family," Jannese Cotten Knaus, the founder's 59-year-old daughter and the restaurant's cashier, told the Corpus Christi Caller-Times during Saturday's fire sale in front of the remains of the restaurant.
"It's like my dad dying again," said 51-year-old Cecil Cotten, who helped run the restaurant for 35 years.
Will the place reopen? "We've got to get this place torn down and figure things out," Cecil Cotten said.
