Rio Grande City leaders have appointed an interim city manager following a scandal that left their city manager and police chief on suspension.
City leaders met late Thursday morning and voted to appoint City Finance Director Mary Barrera as interim city manager.
The decision follows a sexual harassment scandal that put City Manager Juan Zuniga and Police Chief Dutch Piper on suspension.
A lawsuit against both Zuniga and Piper remains pending in McAllen's federal court.
City leaders said Barrera has 10 to 11 years experience with the city and had previously served as interim before Zuniga was hired.
