BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS (AP) -- A man accused of helping bribe a Texas judge has been indicted for allegedly arranging payments from people wanting a break in court cases.

A federal indictment returned this week names Jose Manuel Longoria of San Benito. He'll be arraigned May 4.

An attorney for Longoria didn't immediately comment Thursday.

An extortion count involves payments Longoria allegedly secured for Judge Abel C. Limas, who lost his 2008 re-election bid. Limas pleaded guilty to racketeering last month and awaits sentencing.

A wire fraud count involves $1,800 allegedly sent from Arkansas on behalf of a person on probation.

The Brownsville Herald reports Longoria is also charged with conspiring to possess and distribute cocaine.

The indictment mentions an unindicted Cameron County employee, whose name was not disclosed.

Longoria did not work for the county.
