Innocent bus passengers caught in the crossfire in Tamaulipas

Three people are recovering after two passenger buses were shot at by gunmen south of the border in Hidalgo, Tamaulipas.

The Tamaulipas Attorney General's Office (PGJE) reported that it all happened in the mountain town of Hidalgo around 5 a.m. Saturday.

Exact details and a motive are not clear but PGJE officials said the two buses were travelling on the CIudad Victor-Monterrey highway.

One of the buses headed to Monterrey and the other was headed to Nuevo Laredo.

Two women aboard the bus headed to Monterrey were wounded and received medical attention for non-life threatening injuries.

But PGJE officials said a man aboard the bus headed to Nuevo Laredo would need intense therapy for his recovery.

No arrests have been made and no suspects have been identified but PGJE officials promised a thorough investigation.

Hidalgo is located in the Sierra Madre Orientales between Ciudad Victoria and Monterrey.

The Saturday morning attack come just weeks after the kidnapping and murder of more than 122 bus passengers in San Fernando.

The shooting also comes one week after state and federal officials promised heavy patrols on Tamaulipas highways for Semana Santa tourists.

A warning from the U.S. Consulate in Matamoros remains in place about about traveling in passenger buses remains in effect.
